They ve spent the past four months rehearsing for Hawke s Bay annual Art Deco Festival, making its cancellation a bitter blow for The Encore Deco Dancers.
Organisers cancelled the festival, due to finish this Sunday, because of uncertainty over Covid alert levels.
The 50 dancers were booked to perform at 22 events. We started rehearsing in November, rehearsed all through the holidays during the days and weekends, choreographing the numbers, says Born to Move Dance Studio director Corinne Bowey.

Dreams of an Art Deco 21 gun salute were dashed for Royal New Zealand Navy vessel HMNZS Manawanui after the cancellation of this year s festival.
Up to 150 soldiers were due to lead the Vintage Car Parade at the Art Deco Festival in Napier, with the HMNZS Manawanui to provide a further spectacle to the Saluting the Services -themed festival.

While Napier s Art Deco Festival was officially cancelled over uncertain Covid-19 restrictions, many events plan to go ahead following the regions return to Alert Level 1.
Over twenty events will go ahead this weekend at celebrated period venues such as the Mission Estate and Masonic Hotel.
Like the plot twist of an Agatha Christie whodunit – rumours of the 1930s-themed festival s demise have been grossly exaggerated. We already have guests here ready to have a wonderful time in Hawke s Bay, said Hawke s Bay Tourism Chief Executive Hamish Saxton.
